Meet Laurie

Laurie VanCott is a physiotherapist, yoga instructor, and educator with more than 25 years of experience helping people move toward greater health, resilience, and well-being. She believes that healing is about more than treating symptoms—it is about helping people reconnect with their bodies, build capacity, and discover what they need to live well.

Her whole-person approach integrates evidence-informed physical therapy with the wisdom of yoga and movement. Laurie’s goal is to inspire and empower people, serving as a catalyst for meaningful change as they move toward greater health and a life where they can truly flourish.

Living in the Columbia Gorge, Laurie has treated athletes of all ages and people in all stages of life. She addresses a wide-range of physical therapy concerns in her practice: sports injuries, post-op orthopedic recovery, scoliosis, and chronic or persistent pain. For more than two decades Laurie has been helping women and men with pelvic health concerns, like constipation, bladder pain, pelvic pain, pregnancy and postpartum health, labor and delivery preparation, breast cancer, post-prostectomy, osteoporosis, perimenopause and menopause. Laurie believes in treating the whole person. Building awareness and knowledge of the body and mind can empower one’s own healing processes. She loves helping people find the ability to move with comfort in their bodies while building confidence, determination, and resilience. Laurie utilizes evidence-based rehabilitation practices and manual therapy to help her patients heal. Where appropriate, she integrates yoga into recovery plans. Integrating yoga into physical therapy often provides a more dynamic and comprehensive path to wellness. Locally, Laurie has instructed and developed physical therapy protocols & educational materials for hospitals and community programs. While at Mid-Columbia Medical Center (now Adventist Health), she was the clinical coordinator for the Mommy & Baby Wellness Program and the yoga and meditation instructor for the Persistent Pain Education Program. Nationally, she teaches continuing education courses for healthcare professionals on pelvic health and polyvagal nervous system regulation. Laurie has lectured on these topics at the national PT convention. Laurie considers herself a lifelong learner and wellness advocate. She has taken continuing education courses in orthopedics, manual therapy and myofascial techniques, strain counterstrain, sports injury prevention, cancer survivorship, and pelvic health. Laurie has also completed training in Applied Polyvagal Theory & Yoga, Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy, and mindfulness and meditation programs. She has had her own yoga & meditation practice for over 35 years. Laurie teaches yoga classes and leads retreats; to learn more see www.gorgeyoga.com. When not on the mat or in the clinic, she enjoys dancing, mountain biking, Nordic skiing, paddle boarding, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
